PAINTINGS - About the Artist

Painting with bright colors is something I have always enjoyed. In 1995 I received an M.F.A. from Illinois State University. During that time I focused on creating works of art using handmade felt. I also created prints in Lithography class that I cut and pieced back together. I called them Print-cuts. Both mediums allowed me to play with color. I enjoy seeing what happens when one color is put next to another color. After college I spent several years working as an Art Director in a small company using a variety of computer programs. Photoshop, Illustrator, Final Cut and After Effects (for video) to name a few. Currently I am doing more of the same as a free-lance artsit, but working primarily for Architectural Cathode Lighting, whose owner is also an artist, and understands the need artists have to create their own work as well.

It is my hope that the paintings take the viewer on adventures through landscapes and shapes that fill the space with meandering pathways, loops and swirls. I enjoy creating images that take the viewer to the edge of some glorious place that lies beyond their vantage point, to territories that spark curiosily. It is always a surprising process from initial concept to final and knowing when something is done. Life can be like that, one randomly selected pathway or stroke of paint can lead to places we would never have dreamed we would go. In a world that can be seen as black and white or with a million shades of gray I prefer lots of beautiful color!

As I grow in my faith in Jesus Christ I desire to bring honor and praise to Him, in and through my work. For what I have found in Christ Jesus has always brought my life more than I can put into words; beauty, love, joy, peace and the hope of eternal life.
